How do I renew a sole proprietorship or partnership registration with SSM?
Renew online through SSM's ezbiz portal before the registration expires, for one to five years. Fees are RM60 a year for a trade name or RM30 a year if you trade under your own IC name, plus RM5 per branch. Trading after expiry is an offence under the Registration of Businesses Act 1956.
SSM's renewal guideline says:
- Renewal can be made any time before the expiry date and up to 12 months after expiry. It also states a renewal should be made before expiry within 30 days; follow the earlier timing to stay safe.
- Only the owner or a person responsible can apply, through ezbiz.ssm.com.my after registering as an ezbiz user. Renewals filed this way are auto-approved.
- Term: one to five years.
Fees per year
- RM60: sole proprietorship or partnership using a trade name.
- RM30: sole proprietorship using the owner's name as on the identity card.
- RM5: each branch.
- RM10: business information printout.
Penalty. Anyone who carries on business after the registration has expired commits an offence and can be fined up to RM50,000, jailed up to two years, or both.
Note: this applies to sole proprietorships and partnerships, not to Sdn Bhd companies, which file annual returns instead. Fees may change; check SSM's current guideline.
